The Message was Sent From the Heart of “Tel Aviv” In the Last Day of the Attack

(Note: If you are not a citizen of Gaza, you may find it difficult to understand what I feel.)

This time is different for me, as a survivor of both (Cast Lead Operation and Pillar of Defense Operation), though it is heartbreaking that all the Palestinians of Gaza are being collectively punished for trying to stay alive. This time, the noticed developed performance of the Palestinian resistance gave me, the oppressed and powerless, some balance in this struggle. We, in Gaza, do not only suffer from 65-years old occupation, but also 6 years old inhuman and mediaeval siege. Literally, the people of Gaza, after this, are left with no choice except resistance. But I should make myself clear here saying we resist using all means of resistance but it such situation, when all of us are attacked, then armed resistance is the only solution left.

Gaza is no longer alone

Here is what happened in the morning of the last day of the attack on Gaza, the night before was the most horrible night during the attack, IOF were attacking us by sea, land and air. It was crazy. At the morning, a friend of mine asked me: “Are you steadfast, still?”, as we were tweeting the last night using the hashtag (I am steadfast) rejecting any cease-fire under Israel’s conditions. And I was fully down seeing children, women and elderly people being killed and buildings and houses being targeted and some fully destroyed. I found it hard to answer the question, but I did answer (with tears in my eyes) saying, “Yes, I am steadfast, still.”. After only one hour, we heard the news about the explosion in “Tel Aviv” and, in a moment, I felt that my balance is back for me again, and the Palestinians of Gaza are not alone. This action definitely came as a response of the inhuman violence practiced over the people of Gaza. The Palestinian woman, who made it, sent a clear message to me and to the Israelis that the Palestinians are united, once again. Doing this from under the ground and in the middle of “Tel Aviv”, proves that the Palestinian resistance is entering a new phase. Demonstrations and protests in West Bank and in the lands of 1948 in solidarity with Gaza prove so as well. Israel’s security is not threatened by the resistance in Gaza, only. The fact that we are occupied, colonized and oppressed means that Israel will not feel secure and free as long as there is one single Palestinian who is not free. And from here I say, the work should be on a just solution for both not a cease-fire. And the struggle will definitely continue till maintaining justice freedom and equality (for ALL) on this land.

Who does break cease-fire agreements?

I’m writing this today, the third day after signing the cease-fire agreement in Cairo, saying that Israeli soldiers did break the cease-fire, again, killing 1 Palestinian and wounding more 19, as medical sources reported. In fact, and before the attack, Israeli soldiers did break the ceasefire by killing 15 Palestinian fighters in October, and they killed another civilian in an intrusion, and then the assassination of the leader Ahmed Al-Ja’bari completely ended the ceasefire. During the attack, and in a speech given by Abu-Obaida (Hamas), and I would understand that many were not interested in Hamas speeches during the attack the way they were interested in Natenyahu’s ones, he (Abu-Obaida) said: “It’s Israeli leadership that forced Hamas to launch rockets not us.”. anyway, this attack in Gaza cannot be justified at all. It is a war-crime per excellence. What happened today proves that any talks about truce is fake not because of the Palestinians, as Israeli media claiming, but it is the Israeli side.

Activism and Solidarity are needed now and then

In fact the suffering of the Palestinians in Gaza cannot be described by words neither can it be measured. I do believe that violence will bring nothing but more violence and hatred. This is why the struggle should continue to end this system of apartheid. After Cast Lead Operation, many activists from all over the world became engaged in non-violent resistance, mainly BDS. Such war crimes committed by Israel should awaken more people to the truth and reality that mainstream media do not tell. With any ceasefire agreement, the door is always open for activists to continue supporting the Palestinian Cause and calling for a boycott from apartheid Israel, a divestment from apartheid Israel and imposing sanctions over apartheid Israel until it complies to the International Law and to the main principles of Human Rights.

We teach life, sir!

Today, my body was a TV’d massacre.

Today, my body was a TV’d massacre that had to fit into sound-bites and word limits.

Today, my body was a TV’d massacre that had to fit into sound-bites and word limits filled enough with statistics to counter measured response.

And I perfected my English and I learned my UN resolutions.

But still, he asked me, Ms. Ziadah, don’t you think that everything would be resolved if you would just stop teaching so much hatred to your children?

I look inside of me for strength to be patient but patience is not at the tip of my tongue as the bombs drop over Gaza.

Patience has just escaped me.

Pause. Smile.

We teach life, sir.

Rafeef, remember to smile.

We teach life, sir.

We Palestinians teach life after they have occupied the last sky.

We teach life after they have built their settlements and apartheid walls, after the last skies.

We teach life, sir.

But today, my body was a TV’d massacre made to fit into sound-bites and word limits.

And just give us a story, a human story.

You see, this is not political.

We just want to tell people about you and your people so give us a human story.

Don’t mention that word “apartheid” and “occupation”.

This is not political.

You have to help me as a journalist to help you tell your story which is not a political story.

Today, my body was a TV’d massacre.

How about you give us a story of a woman in Gaza who needs medication?

How about you?

Do you have enough bone-broken limbs to cover the sun?

Hand me over your dead and give me the list of their names in one thousand two hundred word limits.

Today, my body was a TV’d massacre that had to fit into sound-bites and word limits and move those that are desensitized to terrorist blood.

But they felt sorry.

They felt sorry for the cattle over Gaza.

So, I give them UN resolutions and statistics and we condemn and we deplore and we reject.

And these are not two equal sides: occupier and occupied.

And a hundred dead, two hundred dead, and a thousand dead.

And between that, war crime and massacre, I vent out words and smile “not exotic”, “not terrorist”.

And I recount, I recount a hundred dead, a thousand dead.

Is anyone out there?

Will anyone listen?

I wish I could wail over their bodies.

I wish I could just run barefoot in every refugee camp and hold every child, cover their ears so they wouldn’t have to hear the sound of bombing for the rest of their life the way I do.

Today, my body was a TV’d massacre

And let me just tell you, there’s nothing your UN resolutions have ever done about this.

And no sound-bite, no sound-bite I come up with, no matter how good my English gets, no sound-bite, no sound-bite, no sound-bite, no sound-bite will bring them back to life.

No sound-bite will fix this.

We teach life, sir.

We teach life, sir.

We Palestinians wake up every morning to teach the rest of the world life, sir
